In India corruption is 3 times greater than the GDP over 62 years

Rs. 9.12 quintillion face value... most of them should be corrected to reflect the cost in today's terms. That could be even in multiples of this. Lets calculate this Rs 9.1 * 1015 Lets see the GDP of India. Today it is $1.43 trillion which is ~ Rs 50 * 1012. The period in question is since 1948. So even considering that today's GDP was there in 1948, the total GDP is ~3100 * 10 ^12.

The issue of Corruption and the reason why it is thriving even today is due to the laxity on the part of each and every single Indian.

If one makes a Pyramid showcasing the extent of corruption the bottom half constitutes the miniscule amount we pay(may be in hundreds).

As we move higher the centre half constitutes cash that is paid in thousands and lakhs.

Finally, the top half is where all the power brokers sit in the form of Government,Members of Parliament, high profile Bureaucrats,Lawyers,Industrialists who are engaged in planning, designing, creating, executing and overlooking the policies they make and people whom the policy makers consult while making such policies which includes every single facet of the economy.

Obviously the amount of money involved in the top half of the pyramid is mind boggling as we can see in the recent cases of 2G or Commonwealth Games Fiasco.

Someone described India in a very rightful way - "India is a rich country with poor people(not financially but poor when it comes to values)though we do suffer from Poverty which is to most extent due to the level of Corruption the country is facing.

We as Citizens can do our part and can definitely see the results for ourselves if we stop paying Bribes to Officials at a Sarkari Office.I know most of us would certainly don't wanna pay our hard earned cash in the form of Bribes but since the file does not move an inch without the push of Bribery we end up shelling out the cash very reluctantly. As i said if Corruption has to end,it takes a joint,a cohesive effort of each and every citizen of this country,it means both the person sitting on either side of the table coming together and contributing towards a corruption free society.

I know Anna Hazare and co. has their own critics who feel that including Prime Minister of the nation and bringing in Judiciary will undermine those seats of Power and would be seen as being disrespectful but what i fail to understand is why the Government and M.P's and Politicians of this nation are afraid of being under the purview of the Lokpal Bill. Are they afraid that bringing in the everyone under Lokpal would greatly reduce their ability to indulge in illegal practices that pins them down and making them pay for any mistakes they commit???????????????????????????????????

Don't you want your politicians be held accountable?????????????????

Don't you want a nation where even the P.M(considered to be the highest seat of power being under the purview of an Anti-corruption law) which will punish him and others responsible for any wrongdoing???????????????

It's not just about Politicians,it's about holding people responsible who shape up India's tomorrow.

I think there is considerable amount of pressure coming in from the aforementioned power brokers who do their talking behind the scenes(Members of Parliament,Lawyers,Industrialists,Politicians) who know once the Bill is passed their lives will not to be same again.

Look at India's ranking in the Global Corruption Perceptions Index,it ranks somewhere around high 80's so when a social activist like Anna Hazare(a 75 year old person) who shows the tenacity of a 25 year old, fights for a corruption free India and who is doing his bit to improve India's image in it's fight against Corruption then why do the spin doctors give it a political twist????????

BJP are in it to get some brownie points(that's it!!!!!!!!),the Lokpal Bill will punish as much as a Congress led PM as it will punish a Non Congressi P.M,i think it's time people understood this.

It's not just the fight of some random Indian,it's my fight,it's your fight,it's our fight. Each and every single Indian is as much as a part of it as it can get.

Look at the case of Poverty Alleviation schemes undertaken by the various governments. Why do majority of poor people still live in slums when Government every year in the budget announces new social sector related initiatives to provide decent housing facilities????????

I know we all have our own life to live and make a livelihood to look after ourselves and our families but did we ever took a look at the pain and suffering, the trauma, the anger, the anguish of a family who live in those filthy slums?????????

We can sympathize at most,a good hearted person may even help a family or two who live and survive in such a surroundings but we certainly can't care for each and everyone, well that's why we elect a Government so that what we can't do,they can do it for them.

Do the Politicians care when water starts leaking from their Asbestos roof during the monsoon???????

It's their responsibility right?????But No,they will not give a jack to what's happening with them and the people who live there.

I know India is huge but had the politicians been honest in their fight basic necessities like Food,Clean Drinking Water and Shelter a lot less people would be living in slums but that is not the case.

Take a look at the bomb blasts that have taken place in all these preceding two decades, there would be countless number of heart wrenching stories. You literally feel like crying, there are children to senior citizens from a Hindu to a Muslim everyone has a story to tell...........If the governments during this tenure were any more sincere may be we could have been able to prevent a family from losing their son,daughter,wife,husband,father,mother............................................

The same applies to a family who lives in a Jhopadi, they hope that someday they will be able to live in atleast a half decent home where the water does not leak, where they can have sufficient electricity, adequate ration at Cheap rates to feed their family,a job, basic schooling facilities and healthcare schemes.........but every..........every aspect is covered in the blanket of Corruption, the Government does not care enough to bring these people out of misery.

All they care about is filling their own coffers.

What does it leads to???????

When the Government is so indifferent to the real life problems of it's own citizens, when they shy away from ground realities....there will be mass movements and protests that "Enough Is Enough"....we want some concrete steps that will produce results.

It's very shameful on the part of the Government that "WE,THE PEOPLE OF THIS COUNTRY HAVE TO REMIND THEM OF THEIR DUTIES,THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES BY HOLDING PROTEST RALLIES.I THOUGHT THERE ARE WISE HEADS IN ALL THE POLITICAL PARTIES.

THE TIME HAS COME WHEN WE TAKE OUR FIRST STEP TOWARDS ERADICATING OR ATLEAST REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF CORRUPTION FLOWING THROUGH IN THIS SOCIETY.

WE OWE IT FOR THE NEXT COMING GENERATION.

It take a sincere effort on the people who matter to make a difference be it Corruption or Terrorism.....am Stressing on being Sincere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lokpal is just a right step towards eradicating corruption. It will be a long and hard journey and mind you people who are against all Anti-Corruption movements would just make the job even harder and the only way we can fight corruption is by being United in the fight.
